Struggle
of Life
The hand is portrayed using a geometric structure with crisp lines
and edges. This represents the side of my self that thinks logically.
The body is an organic form with curves, bends, and a lengthwise
flow. This represents the side of my self that is more artistic
and instinctive. These two sides go through a balancing act in my
daily Life.
The
logical side is strong and protective while the artistic is loose
and relaxed. The large hand is supporting the body, which demonstrates
my ability to support my art by working full time as a web designer
using my logic skills. After years of low paying jobs, I am finally
able to make enough money to feel secure. The body is lying loosely
and relaxed inside the hand, which demonstrates the importance of
relaxation in an otherwise hectic and stressful environment. Using
art to relax allows my structured day to become more fun and relieves
much of the stress involved.
On the negative side the large closing hand represents the emotional
barrier I have erected around myself for protection against others,
which is now no longer needed in it's entirety but very difficult
to break down.
Also
represented in these two figures is the war between getting a degree
and just learning the techniques, skills and processes of the craft.
The body has been willing to flow along with the degree process,
learning what it needs to when it can, but is beginning to awake
to its surroundings, becoming more impatient. The hand opening is
beginning to realize that a degree might not be as important as
it once seemed.
