Love, Michele - May 9th, 2006

Opening

Opening #2

“Love, Michele” was held on May 9th through the 13th in 2006 in Gallery II at the ISU University Galleries.

Turn-Me-On

This Sculpture is made of a found dress, wood, metal mesh, electronics, and a motor. It begins it's movement through electricity.

Turn Me On is a fun piece that was a self portrait. It shows the conservative side through the choice of dress, and the sexy side through the movement of the hips. Through the use of a switch, she can be turned on and off; portraying the effect of outside influences she encounters.

Hot/Cold

This kinetic sculpture is made of Brass and DragonSkin and uses a synchronous motor.

Again the effect of an outside influence: in this case a portrayal of the change temperature has on a nipple as well as sexual arrousal.

Shirt

Displayed on a Fiberglass Torso during the remainder of the show, this peice covers a bare minimum of the female body. The cups are made of copper with nickel plating. The chains are made of Sterling Silver.

As a transitional peice it has a decorative theme of nature morphing into manmade. And a psychological theme of the natural body being hidden from view in our society while at the same time bringing attention to the parts being hidden.

Wave Machine #1: Traditional

A traditional wave machine made on a smaller scale using copper and brass.

The beauty of the wave movement is accentuated by the tinkling sound as the bars are lifted along the spiral and dropped onto the stabalizing rod. The curving form of the wave motion is used throughout the piece in the lifting mechanism, the handle, and legs.

Wave Machine #2: Vertical Style

A wave machine turned on its side using copper, brass, and rhodium plated steel.

Here the wave movement is created using the same spiral as wave machine #1 but instead of bars resting on the spiral, chains are resting against the spiral. The spiral presses out into the hanging chains causing a wave motion the flows down the length of the chains.

Wave Machine Part C: Central

A wave machine built into the 3-dimensional planes out of brass and copper, plated with nickel.

In this wave machine brass rods are hung in lines coming out from the center post on four tiers. The center post spins radiating curves that press into the rods causing a two vertical waves in each tier creating the effect of a 3-dimensional wave. An hourglass shape along with the curving forms gives the piece a feminine illusion.
